4 Prayers for 2017

January 10, 2017 Family and Children

Out with the old and in with the new. With a new year comes a fresh start, and a chance to reignite your prayer life. There are many things you can pray about, but here are a few things to pray over to set the tone of your year.

Patience

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

We are instructed to rely on God and His timing for things. However, being patient for this timing isn’t always easy. When you feel stressed or anxious, say a quick prayer to God for understanding and patience.

This is especially important at work, where tempers can run short. Next time a coworker does something to upset you, take a few deep breaths and pray, rather than getting mad at them. Keeping your cool is important, and shows a better example of Christ’s love.

Understanding

There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. Proverbs 19:21

There are times that God presents us with blessings in disguise and we don’t recognize them. Often, we are placed in hard situations and tend to see the negative. Instead, look for the positive that could occur. For example, if you are placed with a boss or manager that demands perfection, look at it as an opportunity to increase your skills professionally, rather than a problem.

Faith

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

It’s human nature to have doubt. When things go wrong, especially for an extended period of time, it can be hard to maintain the faith you have. Do not get discouraged. Pray that you keep your faith no matter what is happening now, or what happens this year. There will be dark times, but joy is waiting when you get through them. Believe that change will happen, and pray for the guidance you need.

Hope

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

There is a lot of uncertainty facing our country and world as we go into this new year. If you feel discouraged, pray for hope and optimism. God is always with us and guiding us, even when we don’t realize it. Everything is a part of His plan, we just need to trust Him.

May 2017 bring you lots of blessings, and offer many opportunities to grow in your faith. If you are in need of prayer, be sure to visit our prayer wall, and our prayer warriors will pray over you.
