Purpose:

To enable the congregation to reach out to people in the community with the good news of Jesus Christ and provide need meeting ministries to those in our community in accordance with the church’s vision and mission.


Christmas Eve- Gift Giving Program

Identifies needy families in the surrounding communities (in conjunction with local assistance agencies) and coordinates the provision of gifts (which are presented during the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service) from the congregation that is delivered to families on Christmas Eve.

Cold Weather Shelter

Provides shelter and food to the (homeless) members of our community during a week in the winter.

Evangelism

Manage & oversee ministries within this ministry area. Create a soul winning culture within our church. Provide programs and services to address injustice, disparities and priority needs within our community.

Food Pantry

Through a partnership with the Community Action Council, it provides nutritional food for the less fortunate in Howard Co. The Food Pantry distributes food on the 3rd Saturday of every month from the Harper House, 5495 Cedar Lane, Columbia, MD. and also through Mobile Food Drops.

Mid-Week Power Hour

Offers hour-long service of prayer, testimonies, singing & inspirational messages each Wednesday evening 7-8 p.m.

Ministry Without Walls

Provides outreach ministry to sick and shut-in members of the church and the community at large. Members of this ministry are extensions of the church through visitation in which those in need are offered prayer, Scripture reading, fellowship and when requested, modified worship services are provided.

Missions Ministry

Evangelizing the world for Christ through spreading and exemplifying the good news of God’s love, freedom, comfort, and salvation locally and abroad. Opportunities to participate in mission trips, locally, nationally and internationally.

PATH- People Acting Together in Howard County

This is an interfaith network of active communities in Howard County whose mission is to train people to take responsibility for solving the problems in their own communities and to renew the interest of citizens in public life.

Sign Language Ministry

To empower the sign language community through the word of God. To encourage and edify the death and hard of hearing and to interpret teaching worship and the word of God during Sunday Morning Services.

Social Justice

This ministry’s goal is to make a difference for Jesus Christ in the home, church, community, and the work place by raising awareness of and taking action to eliminate social inequalities in our social, health, justice, and political systems that prevent equal pursuit of life, liberty, and justice for all.

EVANGELISM & OUTREACH

We provide several opportunities of evangelism and outreach to enable the congregation to reach out to people in the community with the good news of Jesus Christ and provide need to those in our community in accordance with the church’s vision and mission.


MENTORING

Male & Female Mentoring Program

This program focuses on young males and females, of African- American descent, between the ages of 9-17.

The goals are to:

  • improve academic performance
  • increase social and cultural awareness
  • provide recreational activities
  • prevent school drop-outs
  • provide mentees with a positive adult role model through one-on-one mentoring.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

At St John, we value social justice. Raise awareness of and take action to eliminate social inequalities in our social, health, justice, and political systems that prevent the equal pursuit of life, liberty, and justice for all. We will garner effective people power, seek justice and effect positive and sustainable change through community mobilization, leadership training, issues education, public witness, and public policy advocacy. To accomplish our goals we joined People Acting Together in Howard (PATH), an interfaith network of active communities in Howard County.

Mission Statement

Provides outreach initiatives that will impact our community by engaging members to address needs in Howard County and throughout the country. We also seek to fulfill the Great Commission by sending outreach teams to other countries to address practical and emergency needs and for evangelism, discipleship, church partnership and ministry training.

We invite you to join us in carrying out our mission. We meet on the 1st Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at St John Baptist Church.

Identifies needy families in Howard County, MD. (in conjunction with local assistance agencies) and presents donated gifts to those families during the Christmas season. Our strategic partners are the Community Action Council and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Tau Pi Chapter.
